Daily Social Media Usage Includes B2B Customers and Prospects

Many B2B companies complain that their customers and prospects don’t use social media. According to the growing stats, 40% of the world uses a social media site every day. And your B2B customers and prospects are likely among them.

Our friends at Saxum created this infographic for social media day (It was Sunday, June 30 if you missed it). It shows activity on major social platforms every day. While not all B2B social media activity takes place on major platforms, this provides good justification for exploring social media platforms further. The complete infographic is below.

Once you begin to identify where your customers and prospects are on social networks, the next step is to determine what kind of useful content you need to create to connect with them.

Here are some of the relavent stats to B2B marketers:

  • 1 out of every 7 minutes spent online is spent on Facebook.
  • 23% of Facebook users check their newsfeed more than 5 times per day.
  • 2.1 billion search queries are conducted on Twitter every day. That’s almost half as many as performed on Google.
  • 1,370 company pages are added to LinkedIn every day.
  • Facebook and Twitter traffic peaks in the afternoon.
  • LinkedIn traffic peaks in the morning.
  • 200 million hours of video are watched on YouTube every day.
  • 10 million presentations have been uploaded to Slideshare.

What have you discovered about your B2B customers’ or prospects’ social media habits that have justified your activities? Let others know in the comments below.

B2B Social Media is Huge Part of Content Marketing Explosion

Infographics that feature B2B social media stats always get my attention. And when someone takes the time to fully source their statistics with footnotes that point each stat to a source, I am going to shout their praises from the rooftops. The following infographic does both as it focuses its gaze on content marketing.

Many of the stats come from the Content Marketing Institute 2012 study including the following:

  • 90% of B2B marketers use some form of content marketing
  • 60% of B2B marketers plan to increase their content marketing spending in the next 12 months
  • The most popular content marketing techniques used by B2B marketers are posting articles, social media and blogs

One concern I have about the presentation of information is that the creators of the infographic, Blue Glass, set up the story of the content marketing explosion with statistics about B2B companies and pay it off with examples from large consumer brands under the category of everybody’s doing it. Most B2B companies are not going to follow Coca-Cola down the marketing path no matter what they are doing. This creates a disconnect that most people will gloss over, as the infographic is meant to appeal to a wider audience than B2B marketers. But those in B2B will notice. And did notice.

Even so, it is worth sharing, and I like the dog guiding our way through the information.

What are your content marketing plans for 2012, and are they significantly increasing from last year?

B2B Social Media Wins with Inbound Marketing [Infographic]

B2B social media becomes a winning approach when marketers change from expensive outbound marketing tactics to more cost-effective inbound marketing efforts like blogs, ebooks and webinars that provide value to prospects and customers. The content you create needs to be educational, entertaining and remarkable so your followers share it with their networks, thereby extending its reach.

The below inforgraphic includes many of the B2B social media statistics we included in a previous post, but we know that some marketers like to share infographics as a way to make their case for social media.

What elements below resonate most with you as you move from outbound to inbound marketing?
