B2B Social Media is Huge Part of Content Marketing Explosion
Tue, Feb 14, 2012
Infographics that feature B2B social media stats always get my attention. And when someone takes the time to fully source their statistics with footnotes that point each stat to a source, I am going to shout their praises from the rooftops. The following infographic does both as it focuses its gaze on content marketing.
Many of the stats come from the Content Marketing Institute 2012 study including the following:
- 90% of B2B marketers use some form of content marketing
- 60% of B2B marketers plan to increase their content marketing spending in the next 12 months
- The most popular content marketing techniques used by B2B marketers are posting articles, social media and blogs
One concern I have about the presentation of information is that the creators of the infographic, Blue Glass, set up the story of the content marketing explosion with statistics about B2B companies and pay it off with examples from large consumer brands under the category of everybody’s doing it. Most B2B companies are not going to follow Coca-Cola down the marketing path no matter what they are doing. This creates a disconnect that most people will gloss over, as the infographic is meant to appeal to a wider audience than B2B marketers. But those in B2B will notice. And did notice.
Even so, it is worth sharing, and I like the dog guiding our way through the information.
What are your content marketing plans for 2012, and are they significantly increasing from last year?

Infographics…infographics. Visualizing information to see the patterns and connections that matter. Very helpful share Jeff. Social media plus content marketing equals powerful results. All the best.
Thanks Jeff, we work in the B2B space advising companies on social interaction and it is so obvious to me that content driven marketing is important but the context of the content is also critical if the content is going to lead to conversations that lead to what most B2B companies want – meetings. Making the connection between content and meetings is what most companies are interested in. Thanks for sharing that – it’s a really exciting space right now.
