Where in the World is Social Media B2B?
Tue, Oct 13, 2009
We write about building community around your business or organization and engaging your customers a fair amount on this site, so I wanted to engage our readers in a different way. The readership of this site has grown and we appreciate everyone’s support, comments and feedback on our posts.
Last week a B2B agency in Sao Paulo, Brazil tweeted a link to a recent post, but did so in Portuguese. As you see below, it even includes an indication that the post is in English. This was a lightbulb moment.

It got us thinking about the global reach of this blog. Google Analytics shows that we have had traffic from 96 different countries. And while that doesn’t show engagement with our content, becoming a fan on Facebook does. We have fans from 20 different countries.
We know many of our readers in the United States, whether through Twitter, comments, or even meeting some of them at conferences, but we would like to know more of our international readers. If you are reading this post and you work outside of the US, please leave a comment below. At a minimum, let us know your city and the country, but a brief introduction to you and your business interests would be better. This is not a pitch, but the chance to connect with others in the B2B space around the world. It could turn out that you share expertise in a particular niche with someone in another country. You can connect through these comments. To make this productive for everyone, we need as many people as possible to leave comments. Please share this post with colleagues and link to it from your blog or website.
We are always looking for new ideas, and suggestions from readers if they are looking for answers to certain questions. You can add that to your comments too if you like. Thanks for your participation.
I will update this post with a count of countries as this progresses. And who knows what will come from this simple idea of connection.

Hi, I’m based in Toronto, Canada. I work in Marketing at an I.T company and one of my primary responsibilities is building an online community around the company’s product, services and brand promise. I closely follow your blog as it represents the B2B space (which is where I operate). Thanks and keep up the great work!
Cheers!
Hello, I’m based in Johannesburg, South Africa and started a B2B marketing blog a few weeks ago at http://www.eardley.co.za.
My latest post, ‘The WOMsta monsta’ talks about social media and links to you guys as a source for stimulating thinking around how B2B can use it as another comms channel. Was wondering last night, where does Skype fit in to the mix – if at all? At the moment, my thinking is that more B2B’s should be using a blog on their site to turn the site into an interactive space rather than just a static ’shop-window’. Many thanks for what you’re doing.
I live in Sweden and work as a project manager at a digital agency. Most of my clients are B2B companies.

Thanks for stopping by and letting us know where you are. One of the most interesting stats about our global readership is that we have more Facebook fans in Helsinki (23) than any other city in the world, including our homebase of Raleigh NC. Look through our Facebook fans, and you might find some new contacts to meet in the local B2B space.
