44 Percent Of B2B Companies Aren’t Using Social Media In Their Marketing
Tue, Mar 3, 2009
Through Twitter I found the poll that I have included above. The poll asks professionals if they are using social media in B2B marketing. I think these results are interesting, but also inflated. According to this LinkedIn poll 56% of the companies that responded (out of the 179 total respondents) are using social media in B2B marketing. That number is far too high.
It is easy to see why that number is inflated. The poll itself is being conducted on a social network, so all participants have a better understanding of social media as they are already participating. What is your take? Do you think these numbers are too high compared to the whole B2B Marketing industry?

Hi Kipp,
Firstly, I would like to commend you on creating a great resource for B2B Social Media!
I agree that the numbers do seem inflated. I live in Canada and can tell you that social media is not a part of most busineses B2B marketing strategies. Our company recently looked at B2B Social Media adoption rates and found that the majority of businesses were spectators; meaning they see value in social media but just watch and don’t participate in it.
A fellow colleague and myself have been tasked to prepare a social media strategy. We have found it difficult to convince our strategic management team to adopt this new marketing technique. We are thinking of developing a internal social media environment with our external sales force and our internal marketing / operations group and hopefully use the successes to support an external social media strategy.
We would appreciate any suggestions, feedback, or other resources to help us build a good business case. We are excited about social media! We just need to prove that it’s effective.
Thanks,
Tyler
